Utah Skiing and Snowboarding
I found a great resource for avid skiiers and snowboarders. Ski Utah has reports on the latest snowfall, links to the resorts, and updates on the latest news relative to skiing and snowboarding. For those visiting Utah, it offers lodging and traveling tips. Check out Ski Utah before you head to the slopes this winter for all the info. you need.
Winter Activities
Since I’m not very good at skiing or snowboarding (nor do I have a lot of extra money as a starving student), I like to find outdoor activities in the winter that are less expensive but still fun. Here’s some activities that I like to do with a big group of friends or on a date. Get your Utah outdoor adventure from these happening activities!
-Snowshoeing: There are plenty of places to snowshoe. It’s inexpensive too, and if you go to college you can rent snowshoes at your local outdoor recreation store. It’s also a great way to get your heart going.
-Tubing: Who doesn’t love to grab a tube and ride down a big hill? Plus there’s little equipment necessary–just find a tube and a hill and let the competition and snowy fun begin.
-Snowball fights: All you need is some snow, which Utah has plenty of. (It helps if you have warm gloves and clothes too, or you may get pneumonia like my friend). If you’re not into competition, just make snow angels or a snowman.
-Ice Skating: This is the perfect date activity. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks throughout the state. You can even visit the arenas used by Olympic athletes like Apollo Anton Ohno!
-Sleigh Ride: Whether you’re in downtown Salt Lake City or somewhere else, a sleigh ride is a magical and warm way to view the area and chat with friends and family. Or snuggle up together in a sleigh for the perfect date night.
Snowboarding In Utah
With winter coming, the ski and snowboarding resorts are getting ready to open. We’ve already had snow in the mountains, and even a little bit in the valleys. (Global warming?! It’s freezing here already!)
If you’re looking to go snowboarding, you probably know that the lift tickets are pretty expensive - they range anywhere from $45 to $75 per lift ticket for an all day pass. There are ways, however, to get discounts.
Every year, Philips 66 gas station offers a 2 for 1 pass to Snowbird. You have to fill your car up 4 times there and get a card stamped, but it’s totally worth it since you fill up your car anyway.
The only catch to this deal is that you have to use it before the end of December. The great thing, however, is that we’ve already gotten a ton of good snow this year, and it’s not even Halloween yet. I’m super stoked to hit the mountain this year.
